Facilities of RailPort Industrial
DistrictOn the western side of Chaparral Steel in Midlothian.
Texas, is a large section of acreage bought by TXI to be turned into an
industrial park - RailPort. TXI bought this property, which was a working
ranch, rather than pay to clean it up after the state found Chaparral Steel
toxic metals contamination on it in 1995.
The hay being grown on it had to be destroyed. Already this industrial
development has attracted a new large power plant that is slated to become
the sixth largest stationary polluter in the region.
